A LITTLE BIT ABOUT US
Get to know the people behind the place.
Hi I am Giorgos. I was born and raised here in Zakynthos. I have lived in Italy for almost 5 years. I studied graphic design in Athens. I love creating things with my own hands. Many of the furniture you see in Kanela Studios and Kanela Café are my own creations. I speak Italian fluently. Together with my brother, Marios, we own and run Kanela Studios and Kanela Traditional Greek Products Store & Café.

My name is Marios and I am Giorgos’ brother. I have studied TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) and Photography in the UK. I hold an M.A. in TESOL. Even though Giorgos and I really love what we do in Kanela Studios, Documentary Photography and Video Art is what makes me feel complete. I also enjoy travelling and working as volunteer in different countries; trying to have a positive impact in local communities.

‘Kanela’ means ‘Cinnamon’ in Greek. A few years ago someone abandoned a very cute puppy in the middle of a harsh winter, right outside our doorstep. We named that little puppy ‘Kanela’ because of her cinnamon color. When we decided to create our cozy place, Kanela was always there, with her gentle nature and her kind eyes, accompanying us throughout all the process. So when we finally finished works and we were looking to name the place, ‘Kanela’ came out naturally. Kanela is no longer with us but still fills this place up with warmth and kindness.
